Dave Ross is an American abstract painter whose practice is grounded in gesture, rhythm, and the physicality of paint. Working within and beyond the lineage of Abstract Expressionism, his compositions unfold through an intuitive, process-driven methodology that privileges movement over control and sensation over representation.

Ross’s technique centers on the transference of energy—layering, sweeping, and releasing color across the surface in a way that captures immediacy and flux. His works are marked by a bold chromatic language and a dynamic interplay between density and openness, where areas of saturation collide with moments of restraint. The surface becomes an active field: a site of accumulation, erasure, and reactivation, where gesture operates as both mark and momentum.

Scale plays a critical role in his practice, allowing the body to engage directly with the canvas and amplifying the sense of immersion and movement. His evolving visual language reflects an ongoing exploration of material, technique, and form—merging approaches and extending the possibilities of abstraction through increasingly layered and fluid compositions.

Ross’s breakthrough came with his first solo exhibition in Miami with Baker-Hall, where he presented a monumental 16.5 ft-tall painting that established both the physical and conceptual scale of his practice. Subsequent presentations, including at the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary art fair, have marked a clear evolution in his work—introducing new techniques and an increasingly layered visual language.

His recent solo exhibition in his own space signals a further development: a merging of styles and a continued expansion of his painterly vocabulary, positioning his work within an ongoing exploration of abstraction as both process and experience.  The work is rooted in a deep spiritual connection – to the energetic flow and inspiration that comes from the process.  Through color, materials, and the flow of movement, he creates striking expressions beyond words – paintings you can feel before you can understand.  This high vibration work carries a strong energetic presence.

In addition to his studio practice, he currently sits on the Global Council for Zeitz MOCAA and the Board of The Fountainhead Residency.
