"This is an image of Gladys and she is also known as Amai Chipo. She works as a trolly pusher at a local market and I was immediately drawn to her regal agility. In order to highlight her regal power, we created a garment which borrowed from the design of her apron and transformed ideas around femininity. I aimed to explore the idea of what an authentic African landscape looks like. I employed the idea of malleable landscapes which are not permanent and are often shaped by human presence. Just like the resilient cactus which stores water for survival, the intricately crafted pot she carries serves the same purpose. This artwork celebrates the harmony between nature's resourceful vessels and the beauty of human creation. All in order to blend the boundaries of tradition, anthropology and beauty."
