On May 23 from 3–7 PM, VISU Contemporary will host Lara Padilla for a live painting within the gallery, conceived as a direct response to My Silence is Made of Explosions, our current exhibition of contemporary female surrealist photographers.
The current exhibition on display, brings together artists who construct images with precision—moments where the subconscious is distilled into a single, resolved frame. Padilla’s presence introduces a complementary dimension: the image not as conclusion, but as emergence. Over the course of the afternoon, her painting will develop in real time, making visible the intuitive and psychological processes that the photographic works hold in suspension.
We encourage you to experience the work in stages—earlier in the afternoon, as the composition begins to take form, and again later, as it approaches completion. The interval between these encounters offers a rare opportunity to consider not only what an image is, but how it comes into being.
The completed painting—produced entirely in dialogue with the exhibition—will be available for acquisition, as are the photographs in the ongoing exhibition.
This activation is intended as an extension of the exhibition’s central inquiry—how interior states are translated into visual language—rather than a departure from it.
