Paul Nicklen Canada, b. 1968

Paul Nicklen is a Canadian photographer, filmmaker, and

marine biologist who has spent over 30 years documenting

the beauty and fragility of our planet.

Nicklen is one of the most widely collected photography artists

in the world, renowned for his ability to transform fleeting

moments in nature into fine art. His work transcends traditional

wildlife photography, drawing in collectors, galleries, and

museums with its emotional depth, painterly composition, and

masterful use of light. His images are not just documentation

but evocative, timeless pieces that transport viewers into the

heart of the wild.

Born into this calling, Nicklen’s photography offers a rare

glimpse into Earth’s most extreme environments, forging an

intimate connection between viewers and the natural world.

His work is exhibited in renowned galleries and collected by

Hollywood icons, rock stars, and royalty.

In 2014, he co-founded SeaLegacy, a non-profit using

storytelling to inspire global action to protect marine

ecosystems. He is a Sony Artisan of Imagery and collaborates

with Rolex’s Perpetual Planet initiative. His achievements

include over 30 prestigious awards, an honorary PhD from

the University of Victoria, as well as Simon Fraser University in

Vancouver. He is the youngest person to be inducted into the

International Photography Hall of Fame and is a Member of

the Order of Canada.

Despite these accolades, Nicklen’s true goal remains capturing

that one image powerful enough to help change the world
