Ana Maria Nava Venezuela, b. 1989

I explore the contemporary through an ancient material, using glass in non-traditional ways.

Space is my first point of connection—as an architect, it is what draws me in. Space speaks, and from that dialogue ideas emerge, eventually taking shape as artworks that become one with their surroundings. Glass, with its infinite possibilities, is the protagonist of this journey. In conversation with light, it transforms the experience of the passerby. Every space presents its own challenges, inviting me to respond with a site-specific work. Each space is unique, and so is the art that inhabits it.

Intense color and light have always been part of my everyday life, and I am continually drawn to explore them. Glimpses of my experiences surface in the work, allowing intimate moments to quietly reveal themselves through each piece.

My installations evoke diasporas—elements that travel along walls and ceilings, leaving traces of their presence in the form of shadows. Light Stories generates shadows that remain in perpetual dialogue with the glass forms that create them.

My flexible glass textiles colonize space through light, casting moving shadows and colors that shift throughout the day.

The Murallas—ramparts that no longer protect—have transformed into structures that unite, creating connections and interactions. Many of the pieces I create feel like models of the large-scale works I envision building.

I am captivated by the nature and possibilities of glass. For me, it has become a medium through which to explore the contemporary world.
