The Sorrows For Men Will Be Lovers of Self, 2021
Pigment print
30x30 inches
The Sorrows is a reflection on vulnerability, longing, and the search for grace in a fractured world. A nude male figure sits alone on a bare staircase, his gaze lifted toward an ominous sky, eyes filled with tears. There is no performance here, only the raw weight of emotion, laid bare in the silence between earth and heaven.
This work serves as a companion to For Men Will Be Lovers of Self, continuing the exploration of inner conflict in a world consumed by image, ego, and distraction. Where that piece critiques the culture of self-obsession, The Sorrows shifts inward, toward repentance, humility, and the aching need for transcendence.
Stripped of ornament, the setting is stark. The body, unclothed. And yet, within this minimalism, there is a sacred presence. The figure’s tears become a kind of offering, an invitation to feel deeply in an age that often numbs.
