MIAMI BEACH, OCTOBER 30, 2023 — Visu Contemporary is thrilled to unveil its latest exhibition, SELECTS showcasing the remarkable artworks of renowned photographer Tyler Shields. The highly anticipated exhibit, set to captivate art enthusiasts and collectors alike, will be on display at the gallery from December 4th to January 7th, 2023, with an exclusive opening reception on Monday, December 4th from 6-9pm.
Tyler Shields, has carved out a reputation for himself as one of the foremost art photographers. His work encompasses a wide range of subjects, from mesmerizing portraits to daring and provocative scenes. “Considered the Andy Warhol of his generation, Shields has produced images that play with notions of the gaze, power structures, hyper-realism, iconoclastic-tendencies and cinematographic practice.” – Sotheby’s
Shields undeniably possesses an intense cinematic vision and is well known for his mise-en-scène photography, pioneered by icons like Philippe Halsman, and later Jeff Wall and Cindy Sherman. Erotic currents run through Shield’s oeuvre inspired by Helmet Newton, Guy Bourdin and others. and Shields has stated, “the most iconic people have an erotic side to them because they are bold, daring and fearless,
even if it was just during the moment the photograph was taken.” Beyond these themes, pop culture, power structures and representations of celebrity are frequently explored in Shields’ practice—pulling viewers in with images which parody consumerism. Shield’s has even gone as far as to burn his beloved Ferrari.
